2023 Traveling Exhibit

BUILDING LIFE & HOME ON THE PRAIRIE

The newest traveling exhibit from the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection, Building Life and Home on the Prairie: German-Russian Homesteads of North Dakota, is a celebration of the material culture of early German-Russian settlers. The exhibit provides a unique glimpse into the lives of these settlers and their experiences building a life and home on the vast North Dakota prairie.

Our goal with this exhibit is to preserve and share the memories of early homesteads and their vital role in the long and complex history of North Dakota. By showcasing the unique culture, architecture, and experiences of these settlers, we hope to strengthen their representation and bring attention to their contributions to North Dakota’s history.

Visitors to the exhibit will have the opportunity to learn about the early history of German-Russians, their immigration to the United States, and the cultural techniques they used to build homes and sustain their heritage.
