Meet Your 2026 Teddy’s

Joe Wiegand

Joe Wiegand is the world’s premiere Theodore Roosevelt reprisor. As an actor and historian, Joe’s portrayals of Theodore Roosevelt in live performances have people wondering if TR has come back to life.

Joe Wiegand is a political science graduate of The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Joe launched his own business as a political campaign consultant and public policy expert and was working in public policy and running election campaigns when he began performing as Theodore Roosevelt in 2002.

In 2008, Joe, his wife, Jenny, daughter, Sam, and golden retriever, Faith, traveled across America in celebration of Theodore Roosevelt’s 150th birthday and the final centennial year of TR’s historic presidency. Performances at the White House and TR’s New York City birthplace highlighted the fifty-state adventure. Joe has been featured as President Roosevelt in “The Men Who Built America” on the History Channel, served as the model for the newest TR sculpture at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, and has a feature role in “National Parks Adventure” a film about our national parks still showing in IMAX theaters throughout the country.

Kurt Skinner

As an ICBM launch officer stationed at Minot AFB, North Dakota in the late 1990s, my unit, the 91st Missile Wing, was preparing to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Colonel Roosevelt’s “Rough Riders” victorious capture of San Juan Hill in the 1898 Spanish American War. The 91st MW nickname of “Rough Riders” was in honor of North Dakota’s proud Badlands connection to Theodore Roosevelt (he famously declared that he would “never have became President were it not for his time spent in North Dakota.”) I met Roosevelt’s great-grandson, Tweed Roosevelt, during his visit to our unit that year and I was hooked. I commenced on a study of this great American life that, 20+ years on, has led to a bookshelf full of TR writings and biographies, and a fascination with his “strenuous life” well lived that has continued to inspire me to this day.

A retired military officer-turned high school U.S. history teacher, I’m a life-long student of history. My students would testify to the fact that it’s important for me to “get it right” as regards historical accuracy. Theodore Roosevelt’s presence looms large in my daily routine as I co-host a bi-weekly podcast about Theodore Roosevelt called Talk About Teddy. I’m also researching the stories of Colonel Roosevelt’s bond of veteran brotherhood with his Rough Rider regiment after war, and post articles on the Theodore Roosevelt Center website. In my performances as Theodore Roosevelt, I want to honor and faithfully represent this man that I so admire. My goal in the persona of T.R. is to engage, entertain, and enlighten audiences, and remind us, speaking T.R.’s own words, what has always been great about Teddy Roosevelt’s America! I’m an active member of the Theodore Roosevelt Association and The American Legion Colorado Post 209.
