I fell in love with Medora ten years ago and find myself visiting several times throughout the year. Top of my list? A wild and wonderful girls’ getaway with my daughter-in-law and granddaughter that proved Medora is the ultimate destination for a multi-gen girls’ trip. There’s always smiles to be had when a seven-year-old lights up a room. The best tip I can give you is to slow down and look at Medora through the eyes of a seven-year-old. You will see how the simple things in life are what truly matter.
Let’s face it, girls love to shop! Medora has several fun shops offering cowboy boots, western wear, jewelry, cowgirl hats, and a shop where kids can create their own Official Presidential Teddy Bear. Our mission was to find a cowgirl hat and after a little shopping, the mission was completed. The best part of shopping was rewarding ourselves with ice cream at The Fudge & Ice Cream Depot.
Leave plenty of time open to visit the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Stop at the South Unit Visitor Center to view the Maltese Cross Cabin and walk in Teddy Roosevelt’s footsteps by touring the cabin. We then continued our drive into the park, hoping we would have a magical day. The park offers bison, elk, horses, and the prairie dogs are always available for viewing. When a horse appeared next to the road, the excitement from my seven-year-old granddaughter was a “squeal” I’ll never forget. Not long after, a bison made its grand entrance right on cue, sealing the deal on our perfect national park adventure. Magical day, complete!
Point to Point Park offers family entertainment for kids of all ages, and my seven-year-old granddaughter loved every minute of it. There is a nice variety of things to do in this area, allowing you to choose exactly what your family wishes to do. The three of us enjoyed a game of miniature golf and I must admit, it was the BEST round of miniature golf I have ever played with any of my grandkids. My daughter-in-law and granddaughter took a memorable “zip” on the zipline – a fun moment filled with smiles. But, the jumping pillow was the ultimate favorite of my granddaughter, where she quickly made friends just like kids do. If we would have let her, her entire day would have been complete on the jumping pillow.
The Medora Musical is a must for families when they visit Medora. We arrived at the musical with my seven-year-old granddaughter sporting the new purple cowgirl hat she had chosen while shopping in Medora. Her smiles and laughter throughout the musical reminded me of why Medora is such a special place for families. The music, boot-stomping fun, and the magical moments that are created in Medora at the Medora Musical are memories you will carry with you forever.
Each of these things to see and do in Medora offers you and your family an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. I have always found Medora to be the perfect place for a vacation, as I can choose to do as much or as little as I want to do. When you travel with the girls in your family, including a seven-year-old, you will be forced to slow down and take it all in. And that, alone is the BEST reason to visit Medora.
