No one plans for a rainy day: however, a rainy day in Medora is a great way to get to know the quaint historic town. Rainy days are perfect for those looking to explore what makes Medora, Medora. 

Explore Chateau de Mores

Chateau de Mores, built in 1883, this historic Chateau was home to the Marquis family. This 26-room Chateau is open to the public as a historic site. The State Historic Society has maintained and preserved much of what the Chateau looked like while the Marquis family resided there. This museum is a family-friendly site with low admission costs. It is also recommended to set aside an hour to properly enjoy the rich history of the Chateau.  

Theodore Roosevelt National Park

A rainy day may not appear to be a day to enter the park; however, this is a rare, and beautiful time to do soThe landscape has a poetic feel to it as the rain covers the varying landscape of the park. From the stunning buttes to the vast plains, a rainy day is a scenic way to experience the beauty that Theodore Roosevelt National Park has to offer.  

Theodore Roosevelt National Park Visitor Center

The Visitor Center offers a unique way to get informed about the National Park. Theodore Roosevelt National Park has a rich history and a wide amount of information. Stopping in the visitor center allows you to gain knowledge of the parks from rangers, staff, and volunteers. There is a museum, and a gift shop. Stop here is an absolute must before enter the park

Maltese Cross Cabin

Come see the cabin that sheltered Theodore Roosevelt as he built himself into the man who would become our nation’s 26th President. The Maltese Cross Cabin is located near the park Entrance.

North Dakota Cowboy Hall of fame

Become fully invested in the rich history that the Western Plains have to offer. Learn about the many people who made Cowboy culture and history With over 40 exhibits covering a variety of topics. This is a great way to spend a rainy day in MedoraA small entry admission fee is required at the door.

See a Show!


Rain or shine, there’s always a show in Medora! Head to the Town Square Showhall for the Medora Gospel Brunch, served with live music, Tues, Wed, Fri, and Sun at 9:30 am. Or catch the Teddy Roosevelt Show with dinner on Mon at 6:30 pm, or with brunch on Mon, Thurs, and Sat at 9:30 am.

The show goes on through most North Dakota weather, but guest and staff safety comes first. If weather forces us to stop a show before the one-hour mark, it’s considered a rainout. You’ll get two free vouchers for every full-price ticket to use this season or next.

We don’t typically cancel before 7:30 pm because conditions can change fast! If the show is canceled, we’ll email you with next steps for vouchers or exchanges. For additional help, stop by the Welcome Center, Ticket Junction, or your hotel front desk.
