The Conestoga-style covered wagon was used extensively from 1820 to 1840, in the United States and Canada. Large enough to haul up to 5.5 tons, wagons were used to transport people and materials through rugged terrain and were drawn by teams of horses, mules, or oxen.Â

Theodore Roosevelt National Park has one campground in the South Unit. This is about a 15-minute drive into the park, around 5 miles away from downtown Medora. Reservations can be made on The National Park Service website. Â

Rough Rider State Park (located 3 miles south of medora, and right on the Maah Daah Hey trail – electricity and corral access at your campsite) or
the Roundup Group Horse Campground in Teddy Roosevelt National Park (located 12 miles from Medora, ND. It is reserved by one group at a time; space is not be shared among different parties. Roundup can accommodate up to 20 people and 20 horses or 30 people if camping without horses.)
Camping is available throughout the national grasslands that surround Medora.
the Buffalo Gap Campground is an established campground located 8 miles west of Medora.Â
Dispersed Camping is also available away from established campgrounds and developed recreation sites, throughout the grasslands.
