Roger Rettig- Pedal Steel Guitar
Roger began studying guitar in 1957 in his native London, England, and turned professional in 1959. He was soon working for a variety of ‘name’ UK stars like Joe Brown, Marty Wilde, Eden Kane and Billy Fury. He eventually graduated to studio work and these opportunities increased when he took up pedal steel guitar in the mid-1970s, with sessions for artistes as diverse as Duane Eddy, Tom Jones, Elmer Bernstein and George Harrison. The 1980s saw him playing a number of West End theatrical shows - ‘The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas’, ‘Pump Boys & Dinettes’, as well as ‘Patsy Cline - A Musical Tribute’ for which he was the Music Director. He worked with numerous US country-music stars such as David Allan Coe, George Hamilton IV, Sonny Curtis, Jeanie Seely and Slim Whitman. His proudest moments have been working with steel-guitar maestro Buddy Emmons as well as his boyhood idol, Lonnie Donegan. A call to play on a European tour of the New York production of ‘Elvis: The Legend’ led to an opportunity to move permanently to the USA in 1998. He continues to enjoy a busy schedule of musical theatre productions and has now played in every state in the Lower-48. He now lives in Naples, FL with his American wife, Susie, and - when he’s not away working, spends most days playing golf in the sunshine; as he puts it: “Someone has to do it!” Roger is delighted to be returning for his sixth Medora Musical.
