Experience the artistic process from sketchbook to final painting with regionally renowned artist, Barbara Benda Nagle, a professional artist and veteran teacher.

This 4-day workshop will provide detailed instruction in the beautiful setting of Medora, where Painted Canyon views and wildlife provide endless inspiration. 

If you've ever said, "I don't have an artistic bone in my body." or "I can't draw a stick person."


Held in the new Bill and Jane Marcil Life Skills Center, this workshop is open to all levels of learners and artists of all skill levels, ages 16 and up.

The instructor will provide all instructional materials. Participants are required to bring their own drawing and painting supplies. Click to see the list of materials.

A group of seats will be reserved for class participants to attend the Medora Musical on Tuesday June 6th. Musical may be purchased individually or with the Stay and Paint package. Family members of class participants may also purchase tickets in this group.

What supplies do I need? Each participant will be mailed a supply list after registering. The supplies required include drawing pencils, sketchbook, watercolor paints, watercolor paper, and a water container. 

May we purchase art supplies at the workshop? We will not have supplies to sell at the workshop, however, if you have difficulty obtaining items on the list, please email Beverly at

What if my family members want to attend the musical? You may add family members by adding tickets to your registration. We have a block reserved. The more the merrier!

May I bring my children to class? The workshop is limited to people 16 and over. Only registered participants may be in the classroom.  However, children’s art activities will be held Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10 from 1-4 p.m. at the Von Hoffman House. All children’s activities are free of charge.

Is childcare provided? Childcare is not provided. 

Are meals provided? Lunch is on your own - you have the option of dining together at the Bill and Jane Marcil Life Skills Center cafeteria. Water and light snacks will be provided during the workshop.

What if I cannot attend all four days? The price of the workshop covers a reserved spot in the workshop. There are no price breaks if you miss a day. 

Special accommodations? Please let us know what special accommodations you need so we may assist you. The building is handicap-accessible, and there are elevators to the classroom.  We are requesting all participants go “fragrance-free” to accommodate those with allergies or chemical sensitivities.
